Maple Grove Psychologist and Therapist

Psychologist and Therapist in Maple Grove

The stigma that has come along with seeing a therapist or psychologist in the past is gone. Celebrities are now more open about their mental health, and there’s no shame in seeing a professional when we need one (not that there should have been anyway!). Instead, visiting with an expert on topics such as healthy boundaries, perfectionism, and indecision is a positive step for maintaining a healthy mind.

Dr. Rachel DuPaul

Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to help many people in Maple Grove, Minnesota, with their challenges. If you’re struggling to overcome significant hurdles, why not call 763-294-9957 or email dr.rachel@betterbalancepsychology.com today? As a trusted professional in the psychology field, I can help you not only move past challenges but better understand yourself. It doesn’t matter if you’re struggling to maintain relationships, handle big decisions, or cope with day-to-day stress, there’s no shame in reaching out!

How Does It Work?

If you’ve not seen a therapist or psychologist before, the whole process might seem like something of an enigma. If you’re like most, all you have to go off of is brief appearances in TV shows and films. Although all professionals have their own approaches, I like to be straightforward and honest when helping individuals. With honesty in a safe space, I believe this is where progress is made.

We’ll start off by setting up a free 20-minute phone consultation to make sure we are a good clinical and personality fit. There’s no guarantee that every therapist/client relationship will be a perfect match so I try to assess that before a lot of time and/or money is involved. If we both agree to move forward, we will progress into the video sessions. When we’re in a video chat together, you’ll have my full attention so that we can work to get to the bottom of any issues you’re facing. I cannot guarantee that our work together will result in absolutely zero mental health distress. Yet, I’ll do everything I can with my experience and know-how to connect with you, create an environment that you can thrive in, and teach you tools to help navigate life easier.

Some of the most prominent therapy techniques I use in Maple Grove include emotion-focused strategies and cognitive challenging. Depending on the situation, I might also get you to engage in motivational interviewing techniques, values assessment clarification, and assertiveness skills training.

Don’t worry, I’ll explain everything before starting and you’ll have a chance to ask questions (it’s normal to have a couple…or a lot!). I also love to have fun in sessions from time to time since this is my personality and I find that it can help people to relax in an otherwise somewhat awkward conversation. Don’t think that we won’t return to the serious stuff eventually, though.

My Specialties - How Can I Help?

Let me take you through a list of my specialties as a therapist in Maple Grove and you can see if any apply to your situation:

People-Pleasing Maple Grove Therapist

People-Pleasing

Although people may raise their eyebrows in jest about how you’re always putting others before yourself, this has the potential to become unhealthy quickly. When working together, the aim is to better balance the need to be respectful of others, yet become more assertive without negatively impacting your relationships. Sometimes you just need to put yourself first, and that is okay.

Indecision by Maple Grove Therapist

Indecision

There’s a difference between carefully assessing options and feeling anxious about making a decision. If you find that you struggle to make decisions, or you end up unhappy because you’ve made a decision in order to please others rather than what you really want, I can help.

High Achivers in Maple Grove Psychologist

High Achievers

Your emotional needs are critical in life, and you shouldn’t let your pursuit of success get in the way of these needs. As you strive for success, you may feel anxious, stressed, or even disappointed at times so it’s important to find a balance between challenging yourself and giving yourself compassion.

Stress Management - Maple Grove Therapist

Stress Management

Stressful situations surround us, but there’s a difference between a stressful, time-limited deadline at work and a chronic state of stress where you are never able to switch it off. The latter can lead to feeling overwhelmed, irritability, and a whole host of physical ailments. You need to learn to cope with stress without letting it affect your health, and I can set you on this path.

Healthy Boundaries by Maple Grove Psychologist

Healthy Boundaries

Are your parents, friends, or loved ones “too involved” in your life? Perhaps they insert themselves into your work life, drop by your house unannounced, or always need to know every detail of what’s going on. Even if their intentions are good, it can lead to problems, and it’s hard to correct them. Whether a romantic, platonic, or family relationship, let’s help you lay down healthy boundaries for stronger connections.

Perfectionism Maple Grove Therapist

Perfectionism

Having high expectations is fantastic - a bit of ambition can go a long way. The problem arises when the expectations you set for yourself are unrealistic. What’s more, you can also destroy relationships by setting unattainable expectations of your partner. Take control of this problem and learn to set goals in a healthier way, identifying a “good enough” mindset.

Codependency In Maple Grove Therapist

Codependency

Do you rely on somebody too much? This is a difficult question to answer because it’s all subjective, right? If you rely on others for happiness and feelings of worthiness, and you struggle to be by yourself, it’s worth talking to me. Being too reliant on others can actually push those closest to you away.

Burnout Maple Grove Therapist

Burnout

Sadly, I see this all too often in the modern world. The problem is that people don’t realize that they are on the precipice of burnout until it’s too late. Often, family members and friends spot the signs of burnout first. Work with an expert like me to overcome burnout and ensure that you’re in a better position to recognize it (and hopefully avoid it) in the future.
